Why I love PEM at Brown

Our PEM family! Since starting my training at Hasbro Children’s/Brown University I have been welcomed by supportive, kind, caring, and dedicated people who invest themselves in creating a unique training environment for fellows. The Brown PEM division provides a sense of community that is supportive for both personal and professional growth and seeks to prepare trainees for confidence as a PEM Attending. The opportunities for research and collaboration within the department and university fosters innovation and provides support for any niche. Clinical training also benefits from the fact that Hasbro Children’s serves as the only Level I Trauma center for pediatric patients in Rhode Island and provides fellows with experience managing critically ill patients while training. Utilizing a graded autonomy model, attendings work closely with fellows and provide support if needed when transitioning into the PEM fellow role to tailor the experience to the individual.

Why I love Rhode Island

As a kid, my family vacationed to the Ocean State many times over the years, and I have always loved the coastal vibe of Rhode Island. With a family of my own now, Providence allows for balance between the bustle of the city necessary for my clinical experience and the comfort of suburban living close to work. If you enjoy the ocean and like beach days, seafood, fishing, or boating there are plenty of opportunities to explore across the state. Rhode Island is small enough to allow for quick  trips to the beach without a road trip and has easy access to destinations like Boston & New York City. Let’s go Pats!
